Manager Prep:
One of the most compassionate things you can do is prepare for the meeting, here are some tips:
Example Meeting Script:
Manager Script: "Thanks for joining on short notice. Unfortunately, the role of [X] is no longer required by the business. We’re grateful for your contributions, but we haven’t been able to meet the expectations set out for this role. X from HR will now walk you through next steps."
HR Script: "Before we go into logistics, any questions? We’ll send a follow-up letter that outlines all of the logistics clearly, I know it’s a lot to take in.
You have one month's notice period, but we want you to have as much time as you can to find your next role, so we are going to pay that in Lieu which means today is your last day working with us.
We will close your accounts next x (three days later for example), and you will need to return your laptop (plus any other equipment) to us by DATE. Y person will be in touch to arrange that with you.
Your manager would like a short handover, I know there are a few things they might like you to prepare later today, and they will walk you through them at a meeting a 2pm today. Is that okay for you?
Manager Wrap-Up: Before we go any further, do you have any questions?
Next steps wise, yes, there are a few handover points, that we can discuss after, but they should only take an hour, and you will be able to wrap up work by end of today.
As mentioned your accounts will be open until DATE, so you can say good bye to team members etc. in your own time.
After this call, we will update the wider team, starting with THE GROUP you work closely with.
